A very pretty day today…

We went for a walk just after dawn today (having to get up a bit later this week as it is still dark at 7am).  The views on the way back down towards the mountains were magnificent. Beinn Lochain under a hat of cloud Beinn Bheula sporting the same style The loch comes into view Amazing […]

Some shots of Marten

I was just about to go to bed last night when I glanced outside the window to see a large pine marten munching on the nuts we had put out for the night time visitors.   Unlike the badgers who are pretty phlegmatic about human presence, he was very wary and constantly glancing about. R took […]

What do these remind you of?

This was honestly not deliberate – but after I had made these olive rolls and added a central black olive as a decoration, it did occur to me that they bear more than a passing resemblance to comedy boobs. I’m sure they’ll taste none the worse for that… R’s sister V is getting married tomorrow […]

The Brack

As it was a beautiful morning, I nipped up the Brack. Actually it was rather further than I remembered it being and I am a bit footsore tonight. The views on the way up and from the top were glorious though. Here is the cairn at the summit just to prove I made it. And […]

Beinn an Lochain

R and I climbed Beinn an Lochain (Hill of the small loch) today.  This is the one next to the Rest and be Thankful opposite Beinn Donich.  As Beinn Donich is our home hill and always has to be “number one climb” I will say that an Lochain is in close competition with Beinn Cruachan […]

A not too successful bake…

I had a go at making the ‘Citrus Meringue Pie’ signature challenge from Bake Off yesterday. The recipe I tried was Jane’s one for Lime and Coconut Meringue Pie and I can’t say that it was entirely successful. The recipe is here Recipe – and I followed it pretty exactly apart from not putting coconut flavouring […]

A Good Night for Wildlife

We’ve been missing seeing our resident badgers over the summer – they have been visiting – but for some reason only in the small hours of the morning. All of a sudden now autumn is here they are back at 9pm. R had the bright idea of moving our light pole into the kitchen – […]

Lovely Sunset

This was the view at sunset today on the way down the Donich Circular walk – quite spectacular. Later, sitting in my office there was a thin crescent moon visible out of the window and lots of bats flitting about – it would have been spooky if it weren’t so lovely.

Home again, home again

We had to get up at 6am to catch our flight. For some reason the priority boarding did not exist at this end, which was just as well as the first people out were decanted to wait for a bus by the side of the road in the baking heat. At least the flight left […]

Mouse on Mouse

I mentioned that Schrodi has suddenly developed a liking for bringing in field mice. Well unlike his usual short-tailed voles they are the proverbial bugger to catch (they almost seem to be able to teleport from one side of the room to another just when you think you have them cornered). The other day he […]
