Some more restoration

I’ve done a few more pieces of furniture.

This one is a gate leg table.  The top was completely ruined with damp and the varnish was half flaked off.  I cut away the damaged wood and replaced those bits with veneer.  In retrospect I should have cut more away to make it a regular shape because the veneer was very difficult to cut to shape.  I ended up having to stop up a few small cracks with tinted wax.  The rest of the suface I sanded down, stained and waxed.  The rest of the table I cleaned and waxed, plus I took the handles off and repainted them. This is the table – I am not sure if I should stain the rest of it to match because my “mahogany” stain seems more like a dark oak to me.

Saphy provided invaluable assistance during the process.

This chest of drawers was going to the skip, but with a good polish and a repaint of the handles it looks quite good.  I think it may be 1940s utility furniture.

Finally, I had actually put this little table on a pile for a bonfire.  Then mainly for a joke for J who keeps winding me up for throwing things away – I retrieved it.  The top was right off it, the legs were wonky and it was covered in black mould.

First I scrubbed it with sugar soap.  I stuck the top back on and fixed the leg.  Then I sanded it.

Two coats of stain, a good wax polish and then a coat of matt varnish, and this was the result.  Quite a presentable looking little table.
