Advent 12th Dec – Magnificent Party

Last year my brother N made us the most amazing spread on Christmas Eve. Not only did he produce some wonderful tapas – but he managed to deck out the entire cottage in the colours of the Spanish flag. He is planning a similar surprise this year but not sure what flavour of cuisine he […]

Advent Dec 11th – Two Beds

The two cats sound asleep in their beds in front of the fire. This is a rare event as normally there is a fight for one of the beds with the other one being quite ignored. Perhaps this is just peace on earth good will to all cats….

Advent Dec 10th – A Visitor in the Snow

Last year we got some snow while we were waiting for N and J to turn up. Then when they did, N’s car (which with the best will in the world is not exactly a ruggedized vehicle) got stuck at the bottom of our drive. We had to clear it with snow shovels, and while […]

Advent 9th Dec – Sunset over Drymsynie

The caravan park is normally rather an ugly blemish on the side of the loch, but this sunset managed to make it beautiful. I took this on 28th Dec last year which is always a peaceful interlude between Christmas and R’s birthday which is on 29th.

Advent 8th Dec – Winter Wonderland

This was our garden in Feb the first year we were here. I am still ‘hoping’ for a really snowy “2010 style” winter here.

A Change in the Weather

R has been waiting for his new (and expensive) “Mavic” drone to turn up for months now. Unfortunately it can’t be flown in the rain, and I did point out to him that when it finally turned up this would inevitably herald a change in the weather from beautifully cold and clear, to typical Argyll […]

Advent 7th Dec – Lemons and Limes

A big pile of lemons and limes with my Christmas cake in the background. There is something very festive about citrus fruit – in this case probably because they are to be made into Margaritas which I only generally have at Christmas.

Another Vegan/Low Carb Meal

V and A came to lunch and I had another go at a vegan low-carb meal with rather mixed success. Starter – humus, guacamole, olives, crudités – so far so good. Main Course – aubergines stuffed with lemon infused quinoa and pine nuts. Saffron roast potatoes. This was ok – the lemon didn’t really take […]

Advent 6th Dec – Christmas dinner for the Cats

Last year the crackers came with some name markers. I thought the cats might like their own – so this was their plate of smoked salmon. This was after they had finished their smoked salmon (I say “their” but Tora is actually not that fond of it).
